28/05/10: The highs and lows of being shared!
October 19, 2010
Hello all! I can't quite decide whether the past 6 weeks have been heaven or hell. As many of you will know mummy 1 has been out of action due to having appendicitis (We actually think she is addicted to hospital food!) So mummy 2 took over the ride on me.
This started off very, very bad! I saw my food rations almost vanish completely, and mummy 2 actually said she 'hated' me. This really put me in a bad mood. Whenever mummy 1 would build up the strength to wander to the stables to see me I couldn't even get her to secretly top my haynet up, mummy 2 had hypnotized her into this diet too! I think that they also must have taken some of her brain out in hospital too as one day when i was fluttering my eyelashes and whinnying sweet nothings at her to try and coax her to give me some more haylage she smiled and said of course but appeared at my door with two logs! She dropped them on my floor, and waltzed out my stable telling me not to try not to have too much fun... I was bewildered, and so carried on staring at my empty haynet just incase I had missed a strand or two.
Mummy 1 was being really lazy and so mummy 2 had to take me to my first party, we walked the dressage with more than 70%, and I showed her how to do a show jumping course at proper speed, my way. At fence two she considered trying to make me do it her way, and well I soon persuaded her otherwise! She finished clear with a big grin! We then went out to go cross country. Now I know mummy 2 was very nervous about this, so i just took her round steadily in a nice leisurely gallop, and it worked, she fell in love me, she never stopped saying what a clever boy I was. Sonny was ever so jealous! He had a lot to live up to! Even though he jumped double clear too and had the best dressage in his class, mummy 2 still said she loved me lots, I have never seen Sonny frown so much at me- I had stolen his mummy!
Our next party was West Cumberland ODE, with mummy 2 riding me again, our last time together. We were first to go in the dressage and I pulled out all the stops to set the standard, scoring 75% again, much to Sonny's annoyance as we were competing against each other. Sonny was slightly disadvantaged though, as I came to watch his test and the judges horn kept beeping and it appeared that she kept falling asleep at the wheel! I don't blame her, his stable talk is so dull, all he ever talks about is how unfair life is because I am number 1 Prince in our stables, poor Sonny! What does he expect?
Anyway! I now have my mummy 1 back, and she has been un-hypnotized and my nets are getting bigger I can't wait for the day she starts making suppers again! We went to Cumbria Riding Club Dressage day and I went amazing, and mummy 1 didn't do too bad either. I danced to my music to win my dressage to music (equal marks with Sonny & Mummy 2 but I got more for artistic merit, she must have spotted my celebrity personality!), then I paired up with Sonny to do the pairs, mummy 1 got quite competitive and all she did was grumble & growl at mummy 2 all through the test, so much so that Sonny couldn't hear my grumbling & growling at him! She then tried to get out of doing her Novice 28 test feigning tummy pain, but I persuaded her to give it a go so off we trundled. By now it was so hot, and mummy 1 was rather rag doll like with tiredness so i was allowed to really strut my stuff to gallop away with that class as well!! What a day! Every class I did I won! And with my performance in the Novice 28, scoring 73% I won a trophy for highest percentage all day! That made both my mummies very, very proud of me! I got cuddles and kisses when they returned back to the wagon with armfuls of trophies, red ribbons & medals... If only every party was like that one!
Anyway I must get back to my haynet, if I don't empty this one soon, there is no way I am going to get any extra!
Lots of love

Well I’m the head of the stables at Cherry Bank, near keswick. I determine how things are ran, including when meal times are and how long my friends get in the field. I had an enjoyable successful career in the show ring, till my jockey, Mummy 1, got old. I usually spend the most of winter living out in the fields and every year around December I get brought into the stable and start to hear whispers about coming back into work?! Gutting, every year I think i've been retired with my old pal Jaffa. But it is not to be, I’m sure life will be a lot easier now i don't have to trail the country chasing those 'hoys' qualifiers or whatever she called them. I don't need to go to 'Horse of the Year Show' to be told I’m the best anymore, i already know i am! Mummy 1 is also called Rachel Simpson. She goes to 'committee meetings'. Now she she needs you to send things for her to talk about at meetings... I've suggested lobbying to change the pony racing height limit to include me, abolishing stable management in favour of treat testing days and the possibility of me and my brother Billy Jackson organising a fashion show for horses, but they all fell on deaf ears, you would think i spoke in a different language...
