02/10/09: It's Holiday Time!
Posted by Rachel Elizabeth on Tuesday, October 19, 2010
Wow what a busy time i have had lately, i really do think i deserve this holiday that i am now on although i currently don't seem to be going anywhere exotic, i haven't even been allowed in the field for more than a few hours!!
How are you all doing? Digging out your winter woolies for all the winter shows at Greenlands and the Heavy Horse Centre? Crikey you are all brave! I will be thinking of you all as i snuggle down into my big straw bed with my quilted PJ's on! What have you all been up to? News has been very poor lately, maybe you have all been holiday? I don't know but you better start talking to me!
Who is off to the winter ball? You better get your tickets bought quick if your planning for a big group of you to sit together... i have heard off Mummy 1 that Alexy J, Natalie G, and Nicole B have already got there names down to be the coolest table there, so you all better get your names down, and tell her who you want to sit with so that you can be guaranteed an absolutely awesome night out! Mummy 1 has already got her dress, not that i really understand why you girls make such a big deal out of a piece of fabric like that... I mean with a dress all it has to do is drape over you, where as with a pair of trousers it's obvious to see the skill that's gone into making them. The fact they have two shaped leg holes and pockets and stuff like that... I hope one of you can prove me wrong and can show me a dress that has been made with more skill than is needed to make a pair of your jodphurs! Not that i will be able to be there, due to both Mummies going i have been left to look after the house and baby sit the others, but i will look forward to the photos!
So i am on holiday and Mummy 1 has already started planning things for next year. As some of you may know i have been mainly doing eventing lately. This starts with a dressage test, followed by a round of show jumping, then rounded off with a good blast over a cross-country course. Mummy 1 has been talking about something called a 'three-day-event' somewhere down south... the thing is with a three day event is that you do the bits in the same order but only one phase a day, instead of all on the same day. It might just be my point of view but don't you think that it sounds a bit like a lazy event horses kind of competition?! I mean having to have a sleep between each phase?! I hope i don't have to lower myself to their standards and we stick to the elite version of one-day eventing...or maybe i'm misunderstanding something?? I don't know but we will see, maybe the hardest test of it is surviving the 8 hour journey in the wagon to get there!!
Anyway i am off out to the field to check the alien invasion situation. Mummy 2 currently has some aliens in captivity next to my field, they are a bit like sheep, but they have curly horns and are multi-coloured. She also seems to be feeding them live prey in the form of a few of this years lambs. As of yesterday they hadn't eaten them, I guess they could be vegetarian, but i have my doubts, and so does Roscoe, we think they have their eyes on bigger prey.... *gulp*...
All my love, and speak to you soon (hopefully!)

Well I’m the head of the stables at Cherry Bank, near keswick. I determine how things are ran, including when meal times are and how long my friends get in the field. I had an enjoyable successful career in the show ring, till my jockey, Mummy 1, got old. I usually spend the most of winter living out in the fields and every year around December I get brought into the stable and start to hear whispers about coming back into work?! Gutting, every year I think i've been retired with my old pal Jaffa. But it is not to be, I’m sure life will be a lot easier now i don't have to trail the country chasing those 'hoys' qualifiers or whatever she called them. I don't need to go to 'Horse of the Year Show' to be told I’m the best anymore, i already know i am! Mummy 1 is also called Rachel Simpson. She goes to 'committee meetings'. Now she she needs you to send things for her to talk about at meetings... I've suggested lobbying to change the pony racing height limit to include me, abolishing stable management in favour of treat testing days and the possibility of me and my brother Billy Jackson organising a fashion show for horses, but they all fell on deaf ears, you would think i spoke in a different language...
